HONG KONG, Nov 12 (Reuters) – Hong Kong stocks may open
slightly weaker, tracking lower overseas markets on concern over
Ireland’s debt woes, while a rise in China’s consumer inflation
to a 25-month high, indicating broad economic strength, may
prompt funds to jump to commodity-related stocks.
“Bank stocks will also be a focus as uncertainty overhanging
CCB has eased, and that may lift the sentiment,” said Alex Wong,
a director at Ample Finance Group, adding that recent high
turnover suggested underlying strong market sentiment on
continuous inflows of capital.
Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings [TEM.UL] said it
would raise its stake in China Construction Bank Corp (CCB)
(0939.HK) by taking up Bank of America Corp’s (BAC.N) entire
entitlement to the rights issue by China’s No.2 lender.
[ID:nSGE6AA052]
The Hang Seng Index .HSI closed 0.8 percent higher on
Thursday at 24,700.3 on heavy turnover that neared HK$125
billion, led by commodity and energy issues, and financials,
which rose on the prospect of continued capital inflows.
Cisco’s discouraging outlook dragged Wall Street lower on
Thursday, but the market fought back in a sign the bullish trend
remains intact. [ID:nN11190276]
Elsewhere in Asia, Japan’s Nikkei .N225 was down 0.22
percent and South Korea’s KOSPI .KS11 was up 2.19 percent as of
0045 GMT.
STOCKS TO WATCH:
* Russia’s United Company Rusal Ltd (0486.HK), the world’s
top aluminium maker, said on Friday that their-quarter profit
fell 55 percent, coming in well below forecasts and down sharply
from the previous quarter on lower sales and writeoffs.
[ID:nHKV002571]
* Agricutlural Bank of China Ltd (1288.HK) and Guangzhou
Automobile Group Co Ltd (2238.HK) were added to the Hang Seng
China Enterprises Index .HSCE, effective December 2010. Datang
International Power Generation Co Ltd (0991.HK) and Metalurgical
Corp of China Ltd (1618.HK) were removed.
* China’s top state refiner China Petroleum & Chemical Corp
Ltd (Sinopec) (0386.HK) would grant its refineries an incentive
of 1,000 yuan ($151) for each tonne of extra diesel output in
November, two company sources said on Thursday, in a bid to
tackle a diesel shortage. [ID:nBJI002446]
* Alibaba.com Ltd (1688.HK), China’s largest e-commerce
company, posted a record net profit for the third-quarter as
extra services revenue buffered slowing user growth, but new
service price rises combined with a slowdown of China’s exports
could crimp growth going forward. It also expects to announce
further acquisitions in China in coming weeks to build up its
business platform. [ID:nTOE6A802B]
* China’s Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd (0175.HK) should
reach its 2010 sales target, but expected growth in the broader
market to moderate next year as Beijing moves to cool the
economy, its executive director said. [ID:nTOE6AA08J]
* General Motors Co [GM.UL] will launch its new Baojun brand
car this month to capture growth at the low-end of the Chinese
market, competing with domestic makers such as Geely, Chery and
BYD Co Ltd (1211.HK), said its China chief on Thursday.

Wall Street retreated from a two-year higher on Thursday, weighed down by economic shares along with a stronger dollar.

The broad S&P 500 has risen five straight weeks, supported by the Federal Reserve’s strategy to buy $600 billion of Treasuries to lower interest rates and reinvigorate a sluggish economy.

With those gains, traders says most S&P sectors were susceptible to a decline.

Fiscal shares .GSPF, the top gainers in recent sessions, fell 0.8 % following a 6.9 p.c weekly advance.

“We just had gains that is probably a year’s worth in just 2-1/2 months. People are feeling a little extended, and there is psychological and technical resistance out there,” mentioned Marc Pado, U.S. market strategist at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co in San Francisco.

Declines in bank shares could go beyond profit-taking from final week’s gains. The Fed’s pledge to keep interest rates near record lows was viewed as hurting bank profits.

“Negative interest rates are not healthy for financial stocks, and banks nonetheless have a lot of bad debt on their books,” said Bruce Bittles, chief investment strategist at Robert W. Baird & Co in Nashville.

Bearing the brunt of the declines were insurers .KIX , which fell one.2 percent and the KBW Banks index .BKX, which slipped 0.6 percent.

The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was down 37.24 points, or 0.33 percent, at 11,406.84. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index .SPX was down 2.60 points, or 0.21 p.c, at one,223.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was up one.07 points, or 0.04 percent, at 2,580.05.

The dollar .DXY rose 0.7 percent against major currencies on renewed worries about budget problems in Ireland and other debt-weakened euro zone members.

“If you haven’t been to Baotu Spring, it means you haven’t been to Jinan,” most locals will tell you. Located in Baotu Park, one of Jinan’s most well-known scenic areas, Baotu Spring is a must see. Last month, the water level of the spring topped 30 meters, the highest level in 45 years and has been continuously flowing for seven years.

“Rain levels are enough and local people have changed their habits of drinking the underground water to protect the spring,” explained a Baotu Park guide, adding that 10 years ago, many people used the spring as a water source for daily living.

Baotu Spring is thought to have existed for at least 3,500 years, with records dating back to the Shang Dynasty (C.1600-1046BC). Throughout history many famous poems have been written about the spring and today its beauty is still something to behold. With water bursting through three outlets into a pool, rising mist envelops the area like clouds in early winter and ancient pavilions and halls that surround are reflected in the clear water, creating a truly wonderful scene. A favorite pastime is to enjoy tea tasting made from the spring water in the pavilion. It is very pure in quality and mellow in taste.

Baotu Park has several well-known springs, including Jinxian and Liuxu. The water in all pools is clean and clear and retains a temperature of 18 C all year. In some pools, you even see goldfish enjoying a meandering swim, creating a real-life Chinese painting.

Tax cuts are not yet a topic for the next year, but the coalition will deal with them again in this legislative session, announced Kauder. “The Hartz-IV levels are increased. But we must also show that work pay,” the CDU politician. “This needs to be corrected in the tax bracket creep right to have a lot of wage growth in the past,” eaten plain.

In view of the latest growth figures of the Union party leader called on employers to increase significantly in the upcoming rounds of collective bargaining, wages and salaries. “Workers in Germany should benefit from the upturn.’s Wages must do something,” said Kauder. “Many workers are still paid by wage restraint to contribute to stabilize their businesses in the crisis. This should now be rewarded with a decent wage increase.”

Then, a broker at Morgan Stanley in Indianapolis, Auer had no trouble convincing customers that they could make money to buy shares.

“You can pick up the phone and people to do anything, because everything worked and he worked for a while,” he said.

A bubble years of easy credit and rising real estate values stopped development on October 9, 2007, sustained. That day, the Standard & Poor’s 500 hit 1565th In a month it had dropped more than 7 percent as traders began to question subprime.

You know the story from there. Investors with the market through the worst financial crisis in the U.S. for 70 years still be stuck at about 20 percent of the boom period of the accounting for dividends, the question of whether their accounts never recover.
