China: Index of Consumer Prices up 1.5% in January 2010
The index of consumer prices (CPI), a main measure of inflation, was up in January 2010 by 1.5% year on year, said Thursday the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) .
Food prices rose 3.7% year on year in January, with food price not exceeding the 0.5% just one year.
The CPI rose 0.6% in November 2009, ending nine months of declines.
In January, the CPI also rose 0.6% on month, with food prices up 1.8% on month in January, said the NBS.
The cold has driven up food prices, the CPI rose 1.9% yoy in December.
The index of producer prices (PPI), a barometer of inflation at the wholesale level, rose 4.3% in January on an annual basis, in acceleration compared to 1.7% in December 2009, that ended twelve months of decline.
